Read-A-Thon: I Think We're Done Here

I am bundling up my loaf of cat (seriously, all four paws tucked and sleeping on the living room floor) and my book and heading for the bed. I know there's only four hours left, but I'm not a person who likes to be awake for a lot of hours at a time, frankly.

Anyway, I did finish Holly Black's Red Glove, bringing me to a total of 749 pages for those two books combined. I have been reading Naomi Novik's Throne of Jade, but as I'd already started it, I have no idea how many pages of it I've read so far tonight, nor how many I'll read before I finally go to sleep.

I'd imagine I'll call it quits somewhere around 800 pages.

But the important thing is this: I have read, oh, about twice as many pages as Lanie. :D

Goodnight, and good luck to those who are finishing out the last four hours!

- Julieann

Read-a-thon: The End?

Finished:
The White Queen by Philippa Gregory: 33 pages
Emma by Jane Austen: 245 pages

In Progress:
Allison Hewitt is Trapped: Madeleine Roux (starting at page 87): 87 today

Total pages read: 365

Status: Tired. Going to read in bed and will post the final count in the morning. Good luck to everyone who's still reading!

Read-a-Thon: Ongoing

I am actually in the middle of the second book, Throne of Jade, already.

Read-A-Thon Update

Total number of pages read: 596
(424 pages to finish City of Fallen Angels and 172 pages so far of Red Glove.)

Currently not reading anything except the posts in my Google reader because I probably have OCD. I have had 32 oz of Wawa coffee, a large Coke from Burger King, and a dance party to My Chemical Romance with Lanie and the cat.

Send help, there's no sanity left here.

Read-a-thon: Emma Complete!

Finished:
The White Queen by Philippa Gregory: 33 pages
Emma by Jane Austen: 245 pages

In Progress:
Allison Hewitt is Trapped: Madeleine Roux (starting at page 87): 43 today

Total pages read: 321

Status: Very glad I am no longer reading anything from my phone/kindle app on my computer. My eyes are very tired of all that. Also doubtful that I will begin book four or even finish book three but I'm pushing through!

Read-a-Thon: Book Two

Read-A-Thon: Halfway-ish mark

WHAT UP. We have just returned from a foray for food! We have Wawa! We have Burger King! We are having a break from reading!

1. What are you reading right now? I am still reading City of Fallen Angels, by Cassandra Clare

2. How many books have you read so far? This is the only book I've been reading today. To be fair, I started it from the very first page.

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? Holly Black's Red Glove.

4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day? My Saturdays are usually free anyway.

5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? The cat puked on the bathroom rug immediately following me awaking from a nap. I am not amused.

6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? I didn't know there were mini-challenges! I like those.

7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? Nope!

8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year? I wish I were not so addicted to sleeping.

9. Are you getting tired yet? I have already had a nap. I was getting a headache.

10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered? Despite what I said about not laying on the bed, I actually did about 350 pages of reading there earlier today. I guess the key is having a book where you're like, just one more chapter! Over and over and over again.

Read-a-thon

PHILIPPA GREGORY. I HAVE CONQUERED YOU.

Okay, I only had 33 pages left to read of The White Queen, but still. It's done!

Finished:
The White Queen by Philippa Gregory: 33 pages

In Progress:
Emma by Jane Austen: I don't know but I will figure out how to track this
Allison Hewitt is Trapped: Madeleine Roux (starting at page 87): 0 today

Total pages read: 33

Status: DISTRACTED by this whole Emma page tracking thing. Blah.

Read-a-Thon: I'M AWAKE

Silly me, I didn't go to bed until 2 last night and am just now rolling out of bed. Oh well!

Now that I'm awake and have eaten a bite and am relatively lucid (maybe I should look into some Mountain Dew before I say I'm actually awake), here are my goals for today:

1. to read Cassandra Clare's City of Fallen Angels
2. after which I will read Holly Black's Red Glove
3. followed by finishing Naomi Novik's The Jade Throne, which I am currently in the middle of.

If I manage all of that,

4. I will start Naomi Novik's Black Powder War.

If I still need more once those are done,

5. I have Johann Wyss's The Swiss Family Robinson on my Kindle app on my phone, which I am halfway through and
6. I am re-reading Holly Black's Valiant, which I am also halfway through.
7. Or I can start Carrie Ryan's The Dead Tossed Waves.

A series of plans! I has them!

Now, for the little survey thingie from hour 1!

1)Where are you reading from today?
The hipster colony! I will find somewhere to read where I won't fall asleep. AKA not my bed! Maybe I will have a bath!

2)Three random facts about me…

1. I will be splitting my time read-a-thon-ing with a roleplay scene I am currently involved in. I can't leave four and potentially five other people hanging while I read a book! That's just uncouth!
2. My cat stared at me until I got out of bed this morning. It was super creepy and I hope this is not something she makes a habit of. Izzy! What do you want from me? You have kibbles!
3. I don't love Incubus. I love Taking Back Sunday. Lanie and I are going to have a fight! :D

3)How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?
There are approximately 5 million books in my general to be read pile, because I mostly only read on the train now, but currently four complete books off the top of my head, and half of one I've been reading on my way to work.

4)Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?

Two and a half, with an extension for a third complete book.

5)If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time?

When we did this a while back, I learned DO NOT READ IN BED, YOU WILL END UP TAKING A NAP INSTEAD.

- Julieann

Dewey's Read-a-thon

Read-a-thon is on, bitches.

So I'm kind of three hours late in getting a start but that's fine because Julieann is not even awake yet!

Goals: Finish The White Queen by Phillippa Gregory (only 33 pages left) and Emma by Jane Austen (reading on my kindle on my phone so I have no earthly idea how much I have left, other than "less than half"). I don't know which other books on the book pile I'll knock off today but let's say the goal is...at least two, bringing it to a total of four finished books today.

Shall I go back and do the mini challenge of hour one? Sure!

1)Where are you reading from today? The suburban DC hipster colony where I reside. More specifically, probably on the worn-out couch
2)Three random facts about me… My dog is going to interrupt my reading at least 47 times today. I am currently trying to figure out how to shower but not waste valuable reading time. I love Incubus. Love, love, love.
3)How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours? My to-be-read pile in general is out of control, not counting library books. I would like to read 8 just to catch up to the 50 books per year goal, but that seems a little ridiculous.
4)Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)? At least four books.
5)If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time? I am not a veteran by any means. I could use advice, especially about that shower thing.

Read-A-Thon Update: 12 & 1/2 hours in.

Books Finished: Still only one.

Reading: A Lion Among Men, by Gregory Maguire, which is turning out not to be half as exciting as Son of a Witch, which I'd intended to review for the blog but don't think I ever did. Anyway, I actually don't care about the Brr the Cowardly Lion, I want to hear more about Liir, and Candle, and Trism bon Cavalish. THANKS.

Ways Found Of Procrastinating: 7
  • Cleaning Out Google Reader (watching videos of baby goats, baby kittens, etc. and the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows trailer)
  • Shrieking at my mother via Facebook RE: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows trailer.
  • Roleplaying (THIS IS BAD, BAD, OH SO BAD I AM SUCH A FUCKING PROCRASTINATOR). Incidentally, number of actual replies written: 1. Number of discussions had about baby cannibalism, however, is up to 3.
  • Pestering the cat
  • Napping.

Read-a-Thon

So! We (read: I, Lanie) haven't been the best with posting lately but we're (I'm) getting back into the swing of things with tomorrow's read-a-thon hosted over at dreadlockgirl.com. If it's not too late to join in, by the time you're reading this, I suggest doing so!

Some people are doing this with a charity in mind but for me, I am looking to knock my last 4 books of the year (of the 50 book challenge) out of the park before the holidays take up too much of my attention.

For the read-a-thon, tou're responsible not only for your own good time, but encouraging and commenting the bloggers both before and after you. Sound like fun? You can look forward to a bunch of posts from both of us for the 24 hours that the read-a-thon runs (beginning 6 am PST) and then more regular posting after that.

Hope you enjoy!

- Lanie
